Advice from Priority Care of Baltimore

During the winter months it is especially difficult to change bad habits and focus on the importance of staying healthy. The thought of going to a local gym to exercise when temperatures are approaching freezing is daunting at minimum. So what are some easy things that we can do to prevent illness, promote well-being, and increase our overall enjoyment and satisfaction in life?
Small Steps Are Better Than None
First, start with small goals like parking in the back of the parking lot and walking further to the store or taking the stairs instead of the elevator no matter what the circumstances. If you reach your goal for a week, reward yourself with a healthy treat. The more sedentary our lifestyle, and the less active we are, the more prone we are to illness, the longer it takes us to recover from illness, and the less happy we are in life.
Exercising can mean anything from walking 30 minutes 5 to 7 days a week, to practicing yoga, dancing, or even playing competitive sports. The key is to find something you enjoy doing that gets your heart beating and makes you sweat, and then sticking with it.
Pay Attention at the Table
Second, pay attention to what you eat. It is easy to eat an extremely unhealthy snack without even realizing it.
We pay attention to our bank accounts to make sure we don't spend too much money, right? We do this to avoid being charged a penalty.
Our bodies should be treated in a similar fashion. Pay attention to what goes into them. Whether it be aiming for just 3-4 meals a day, or counting the number of calories you intake. Know what you've eaten and what you still have left.
Get Your Nutrients no Matter What
Finally, most every person should be taking a multivitamin, especially babies, children, pregnant women, and elderly people. Not only does our diet lack many of the vitamins, minerals, and micro-nutrients that our body depends on, but we are also prone to lower levels of vitamin D during Winter months when the sun does not shine as long and when we are indoors more often.
Taking vitamin D supplementation gives our bodies more energy, and allows us to wake up feeling better each day, perhaps giving us that extra motivation we need to be living a healthier lifestyle.
Start Taking Care of Your Health Today!
Most everyone can agree that our health is extremely important. However, not everyone can agree on when we should start taking our health very seriously. The majority of people in our society will wait until something happens which negatively affects their health before taking action. Correct those issues and change some of the bad habits which are causing your health to deteriorate.
Good luck!
